The Stony Plain Eagles stretched their win streak to 6 games last Saturday versus the Devon Barons winning 4-3 on home ice, the first home contest for the Eagles in almost a month.
It’s be a solid run of hockey for the Eagles of late with consecutive wins versus Morinville (twice), Lacombe, Westlock, Camrose and Devon.
The Eagles hit the score sheet early in the first scoring just 1:46 into the opening frame when Ryan Benn wired a one timer top shelf off a nice face off play. Assists on the play went to Nick Leyer and Kruise Reddick.
The Barons tied the game up off a sharp angle shot from the corner just squeaking by Eagles netminder Wyatt Hoflin on the short side. The First period ended tied at one with the Eagles out shooting the Barons 15-5
The Barons took a 2-1 lead early in first off of a powerplay marker.
Less than 3 minutes later Eagles Captain Chad Hohmann tied the game at two off of a nifty back hander after walking out of the offensive zone corner. Assists on the play went to Scott Glennie and Blake Grainger.
The Eagles took their second lead of the game in the latter half of the second period when Brad Bourke deked around Devon Barons goaltender Mike Gudmandson off the rush on a nice passing play from Ryan Benn and Nick Leyer.
The temperature in the game was percolating as the game went on with the Eagles finding themselves in the penalty box multiple times late in the second period and into the third period having to kill off an extended Barons 5 on 3 advantage but ultimately surrendered a powerplay goal near the mid point of the third period to knot the game at three goals.
With 59 seconds left in the game, Scott Glennie broke in on an odd man rush with a hard to the net driving Blake Grainger, Glennie patiently deposited the go ahead goal on the short side with Grainger notching his second assist of the game on the eventual game winner.
Fans were treated to a hard hitting, back and forth game between these two teams on the Kinsmen Christmas Toy Drive game night.

The Eagles return to action this Saturday on home ice for their last game before the Christmas break when they welcome the Westlock Warriors to the Glenn Hall Arena. Game time is 7:45 pm.
