The Stony Plain Eagles evened their first round playoff series with the Wetaskiwin Longhorns after a 6-4 win on Saturday night in front of a packed house at the Glenn Hall Arena.
Chad Hohmann and Blake Grainger scored in the first period, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.
A four-goal outburst in the middle frame, cued by goals from Bryton Mills, Nick Leyer, Luc Smith and Jordan Ceh set the stage for an intense third period.
The Longhorns came out of the gates hard in the third, scoring twice in the opening four minutes, but the Eagles held on for a 6-4 victory.
The Eagles look to take a 2-1 series lead with Game 3 going Wednesday night in Stony Plain. Game time is 7:30pm at the Glenn Hall Arena.
